Writing Reflection 3

People have different ways they write and different ways they prepare for a final draft. I use several different writing processes when I sit down to write something.  I would consider myself mostly a bricklayer and a water color painter.  I think of myself as a bricklayer because when I write I like to write slowly and come up with ideas as I go along.  I write down ideas and build on them.  I do a lot of rearranging and come up with more of an outline to work with.  It’s easier for me to build on ideas than to just start writing and come up with the ideas as I go along.  I think I am also a water color painter because I like to write slowly and finish the majority of my paper as the rough draft.  I try and come up with ideas before I start to write a paper but many times the ideas will come to me while I’m actually writing the paper. It’s good to have your rough draft almost finished because the peer reviews are more helpful to me.  It makes it easier to revise my rough draft into the final draft.  Now looking back to high school when I would write in English class, I realize how much I didn’t try to my full potential.  I think the processes started to develop more in college. Taking all of my different English classes has helped me to improve my writing.  I have learned many good factors that helped me to become a more successful writer in college. These are skills that can be used in my life. Writing takes patience and concentration if you want to write an effective paper. Writing takes time to prefect and to get it right. You can’t just wake up one day and be Stephen King or JK Rowlings or any other famous writer. Every essay and paper you write will make you a better writer and with practice comes perfection.  I really did not enjoy writing very much until I actually started writing more.

After watching the video on Monty Python, I can relate to how nice it is to work with people who are team players.  My last job I had was a position that required a lot of team work.  I worked for a new home construction company, where everything we did mainly took more than one person to complete the job.  My co-worker and I had to move a lot of wood, clean houses, and we also had to go to retailers and purchase supplies.  If I didn’t have a partner to help with the work, it would take forever to get it done.  We had deadlines we had to meet to close out the houses for the new home buyers.  I had to work with the electricians, plumbers, and the punch-out person who was considered the final inspector for the new homes.  While working with these people, we had to work at a steady pace in order to get the work done in time.  My boss would make sure we were getting the job done, so new contractors could start a different part of the house.  My co-worker and I would work together to get it done. Everyone would work together to make sure things went along smoothly for the final inspection.  If one set of workers got behind, then it would cause everyone else to fall behind.  I also worked for a fence company and this was a difficult job.  We had to mix concrete and sand together in order to make a mix, to hold the fences in place. We did a job for a homearama which is a showcase of brand new homes, which are sold for a lot of money. This required us to work together in order to finish the fences for these new homes. We were on a strict deadline to finish for the showing of the homes. The days seemed very long but working together with my co-workers allowed us to be able to finish in time for the opening.  Teamwork is really important when you are trying to accomplish any type of job.

God vs. Science

There have been many debates on the issue of God vs. Science, but there are two that seem to be at the top of the debates.  These are Darwin’s theory of evolution and Christian’s belief in creation.  Darwinian and the idea of evolution, and Christians which they say Darwinian contradicts the Book of Genesis. Christoph Cardinal Schonborn feels that scientism or evolutionism is trying to replace religion as the worldwide view.  According to Paul Bloom, the debate over Religion and Science will always be at odds with one another. It seems in most books that have to do with Science or God, Science is winning during the so called “death matches” that people say come out these two topics.

According to Dawkins he claims that people really don’t care about science. Most people go by the middle path, which is that Americans want both science and religion. He says that people want to see the stride in success of science, but we still are happy on the Sabbath day. He says that people want to feel the accomplishment of the MRI, and still want to believe in miracles. Many Americans feel that there should be debates over Stem Cell research more than the debate over science and God.  Collin’s devotion to genetics is probably greater than Dawkins.

Collins believes that God cannot be explained within the limitations of nature and that God’s existence cannot be explained by science. He thinks that god cannot be understood through nature; therefore science could not explain the total awareness of God. Dawkins says that God is not a delusion, but the title for his book suggests otherwise which we could say he is telling two different stories. He believes that a question on whether a Supernatural creator “a god” exists is believed to be more a scientific question than a delusion like his book portraits. Collins also says that if god can’t be explained through nature, he would be outside of time and space too. God could have started the beginning of evolution with total knowledge of how things will have turned out. Dawkins doesn’t think the same way as Collins does on this issue. Dawkins states that if god wanted to create life then why he would wait 10 billion years to get life to begin and another 4 billion years for humans to have greater intelligence. Both Collins and Dawkins agree that there are many unanswered questions and many possibilities to those questions.

The two arguments from Peter Singer and Greg Schaefer are very different writings. First with Singer, I can see where he is coming from when he says that people should, but don’t have to donate their money to save a homeless child overseas. He says that the wealthy people can spend a lot of money on new TV, brand new cars, everything they need, but why can’t they spend a little of that money to save a child’s life? Schaefer says that people who have a lot of money don’t have to donate anything if they don’t want to. In my eyes $200 or $2000 to a wealthy person really wouldn’t affect them to the least, so why not save the life of an innocent child.

Singer says that in this world today most people will not sacrifice any of their money to help the children overseas. Singer says us Americans will not come close to meeting the United-Nations in their target to get 0.7 percent gross from the United States. We are the least giving nation in the world at 0.09 percent. Schaefer goes into saying in the case with Bob that he didn’t see the boy eye to eye like Dora did. According to Singer, Bob made the mistake of not saving the boy that Bob’s actions and choices did not save him.

Schaefer and Singer have two very different views on weather or not to donate overseas to save lives. It comes down to the fact of would you want somebody you do not know to help save your child? Or to save a child you may know. Schaefer believes that it is up to the person to want to donate. Everyone should donate to do a good thing, if it’s to save a life or help a family to have dinner that night. People need to realize that if they were struggling and needed the help, they would pray that a willing individual would seek out and help them. There shouldn’t be a debate on weather helping people survive is a good thing to do or not. It should only matter that you as a person are doing what is right, and that is helping someone who is less fortunate than you are.

Writing Reflection 1

My writing has evolved a great deal since high school.  I have always been a simple but detail orientated writer.  The majority of my writing was because of assignments that were required in my classes.  I was never a strong writer; it seemed like something I just had to do.  That in fact may be a reason why I was always a weak writer.  When we would have writing assignments in high school, I would just try and get through it as fast as I could.  It was something that was not very interesting to me. Since taking classes in college, I have come to enjoy it more.  Writing is something that is used in many classes.  I was surprised how much writing there is in history classes.  I use to be very basic when I would write. When writing I would use simple ways of showing how I feel or describing things.  Now I go into more descriptions and describe my thoughts more clearly.  My vocabulary has also improved and I try to make my writing more interesting.  I can relate to Adora even though she is only nine years old.  She was a more basic writer in the beginning but now her vocabulary has improved and she is more descriptive in her writing.  She also likes to write with more action involved.  Writing a paper after doing research or writing about personal experiences has been easier for me.   I still have some difficulty when it comes to creative writing or certain types of writing assignments but it is getting better with more experience and practice.  It’s just like so many other things in life, the more you practice, the better you get.  Now when it comes time to write something, I don’t feel like it’s a hassle.  I am enjoying writing more as time goes on.

Part II

Congress Spending is not only affecting us now, but our children in the future.  At the rate that congress is spending now, nobody is going to have money. They continue to spend money because no one is stopping them from doing it. Every issue that we face in our nation, Congress believes money can solve the issue.  Within the past few months, Obama and Congress have spent nearly $1 trillion dollars.  Obama needs to realize the deficit we are in and say no to the Congressmen and himself.  We need to try and stop our debt from growing more.

Part III

People will say that the way Congress is spending is doing well for our economy.  The recession that we are facing is getting better.  That means the way they are dealing with the issue is fine.  People who disagree with this issue may have received some of the money from Congress, and it’s not affecting them.  The two sides of this controversy will agree upon one thing, that our national debt is out of control.  Something has to be done about this before we all have to pay greatly for the Congresses mess.

Part I
  1. I believe that people live each day to make a living, and to support a family or themselves.
  2. I believe that society is mainly concerned about what other people think of them. If they don’t try and fit in they think that people will judge them.
  3. I believe that government only thinks about doing what they think is right. If it comes to doing for others they don’t care as long as they get what they want.
  4. I believe that justice is not right because celebrities get away with anything. When a normal Joe does the same thing they get the worse punishment.
  5. I be lieve that knowledge is learned well when you try and succeed. Going to school is the best thing you can do for your future.
  6. I believe that science is very interesting and educational. Science is a fascinating subject that I would love to learn more about.
  7. I believe that reality is becoming more and more fake. Mostly every television show on T.V is set up and scripted.
  8. I believe that life has a good meaning if you live each day to the fullest. Try your hardest to make a living for yourself and your family.
  9. I believe that happiness is a good thing. It makes you feel good, and makes people around you feel the same.
  10. I believe that goodness comes from the heart and people will see that in you. When you do things for others it brings out happiness in you and the people you help.
  11. I believe that death is a scary thing to think about. I don’t think anyone wants to die or even think about dying.
  12. I believe that God is our savior and died for our sins. He died to save us so we can live good and healthy lives.

Part II
I believe that Justice…
One reason I can think of that supports my belief would be the case with O.J Simpson. There was enough evidence at the scene to prove that he was guilty. But because he was a celebrity and had a lot of money, he got out of it. You just hear of different cases involving celebrities who got a D.U.I or charged with murder. No matter the circumstances most celebrities will get out of the charge because they have money and their fame. I think that every person no matter what riches or fame they may have should be punished for the crime they committed. Our whole justice system is messed up, which I believe needs to be looked over and changed. This way everybody no matter who you are gets the same treatment for the crime you commit.

Part III
People will always agree to disagree with any issue. The issue I have presented would be argued, because the rich and famous would say they are getting the same treatment as any normal person. But in fact they do not. They may feel that they are, just because they do not feel that their fame has anything to do with how there getting punished. Some people might say that not all famous people get away with everything, but in actuality most of them do get away with it. They have the money to pay for the best lawyers. Celebrities get away with D.U.Is, drug possession and even murder. There is just nothing anybody can do to stop it because its how our justice system works and it will always be like that.
